The workshop

A shop that builds cavities, not lawn ornaments.

Cozy Nest started when a pair of bluebirds ignored a painted cottage from the garden center and nested in a rough box on a fence post. The painted one had a hole the size of a golf ball. Starlings loved it. The birds we wanted did not.

We still work that way. Each house in the catalog is sized to a species: floor, depth, and entrance. Western red cedar for most of the small boxes, white oak for the owl, copper where a roof should last longer than the tree it hangs from. Joinery is glued and screwed. Every box opens for cleaning.

The shop is a single bench, a few planes, and a small kiln-dried stack. Orders are made in the sequence they arrive, usually out the door in five to ten days. If a box arrives split or the clean-out binds, we replace it.

• CopperStanding-seam roofs. Ships bright; patina is the point.
• Milk paintOn the Swallow Loft only. Oxblood and cream, from earth pigments.

Shipping

Packed in kraft and cardboard, not plastic peanuts. $12 flat in the contiguous US, free over $120. The owl box ships in its own crate. We do not ship internationally yet.
